A few months ago I tried Jolicloud on my HP Mini Netbook granted its on of the first Netbooks and has only a 16GB SSD drive it works GREAT for posting reading and even watching Netflix. However, Windows XP seems a bit slow and unresponsive at times. So I really want an OS that is light but I can still do all I need to without a lot of effort.
So I downloaded the 700MB plus file and spent some time cleaning enough space off my SSD to install it. After futzing a bit because my temp folder ran out of space as I run in on a ram drive because the SSD is too slow (yes you hear correctly) for temp operations it started the install.
It automatically selected my main drive and allocated 3GB for the entire installation. After churning a bit in Windows, it asked to reboot.
On rebooting it had updated the boot loader to load Jolicloud by default with a lengthy pause to allow the selection of Windows.
After a bit of splash screen and some console commands zipping by, it went through another Installing Jolicloud progress bar. This seemed to take FOREVER but I was blame it more on my slow SSD than Jolicloud.
Then ANOTHER reboot, splash screen and no love a blank screen. I did a reboot and got back to XP and uninstalled and reinstalled allocating a bit more space for Jolicloud. But still it’s saying it cannot find /dev/hda1 which is OK because it doesn’t exist. Rather /dev/sda1 does. But how to change.
