I’ve got dozens of passwords and sites that require them and the built in password reminders are a bit clunky.  They don’t transfer well and they have limited security.   I was using RoboForm for years, it worked well and kept things in line but you did have a limit to how many computers you could install on, the supported browses and syncing between computers was a bit hairy.  They did add an syncing feature recently and have a responsive development team but I was looking for something a bit more flexible.  Read More Below...

I found LastPass which not only supported IE and Firefox but also Chrome, Safari(on OSX) and a bunch of mobile devices across the Windows, Linux and OSX.  While there is some premium features such as mobile device support. The ability to store and sync across browsers and computers was EXACTLY what I needed.

The install was a bit strange as I expected to have a system tray application which was strangely vacant.  But the application installed easily in Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer without a lot of fuss.  I then signed in and then proceeded to import my bookmarks.

The import was not as easy as I’d like, while accurate and remembered my folders, required me to split up my printed RoboForm passwords and copy and paste the source code.  I could  safely import about 2000 lines at a time from a 16,000 line HTML file.  It would have been nice to just upload the file and have LastPass process the file but HEY IT’S FREE!

LastPass worked GREAT, filling in the forms that I wanted and placing a little icon in the fields to indicate that it had filled them in.  While you are trusting a third party with your passwords, they are encrypted loca lly, sent up via SSL and LastPass does not have the “keys” to your data.  The GOOD news is that it’s secure but if you loose your password to LastPass you are really in a bind.

Overall LastPass works great and with its integration in all the browsers I use makes it a win for me so check it out here
