I recently took a quick inventory of what I do each day and found that I get little accomplished. I have a lot of time but never seem to get things done. I create lists but I always end up running out of energy and day before I’m done. What was this from? Was it a lack of organization? Taking on too much work? Or something else?Read More Below...

I found that while I would spend a bits of my time fixing my farm on Farmville, Farmtown and Farm whatever; tending my 3 fish tanks; hanging out in Yoville;  fighting 3 mafia wars; and giving bits of my time to working on tamagotchi style web games.  This was in addition to my Facebook, Twitter and whatever other microblog/social networking site that I was currently posting to.

Then looking at my full DVR.  I never got ahead because I was taping a lot of crap that I wanted to watch.   I would justify my viewing as I would save time by fast forwarding.

OOO Netflix streaming.  I can watch at my leisure a LOT of stuff.  So I would push other things out of the way.

When added up each quick little thing took up a LOT of time.   Not one or two ours but even more.  Having a netbook didn’t help either as a quick fast check would turn into a perusal of dozens of websites.

So I’m trying a few ideas to help me out,

  • Drop the clutter.  Who needs 3 farms?  Why the heck do I even need one?     So I’m pretty much down to only 3 online tamagotchi games that can take less than 5 minutes to check
  • Block applications on Facebook you don’t care about.  I would get about a dozen notifications a day that even though a click makes them go away it doesn’t help me at all.   Click, wait, Click wait does add up.
  • Leave your ‘friends’.  Honestly now, do you really have 200 friends on Tagged?  I’ll bet no. So drop them.  The ones you really like give them another way to contact you.
  • Evaluate your sense of accomplishment.   It having 3 virtual prize chickens really that great?  Or would taking a walk  be a bit better?
  • Prioritize your entertainment – Do you need to watch 10 episodes of  cop shows a week?  Nope so drop the shows you don’t watch
  • Turn stuff off – While the TV may seem like a good background it does distract a LOT more than the radio or streaming music.  Just don’t get caught futzing with your music.

I’ve figured by following some of these ideas I’ll save hours a week that can be focused on more important things.  Such as blogging.
