Well I’ve been using Google chrome a LOT and when I say I lot… default browser lot. Now as it’s quickly been updated/patched etc there are so good, not so good, and just plain ugly.Read More Below...
- Popups – Great popup blocker, but TOO GOOD no whitelist so you are stuck if you have somthing like Meebo trying to pop up a window you WANT to pop up.
- Plugins – Flash is pretty well supported but Silverlight ehhh not so much. They DO have work arounds but it doesn’t work too well and downloading betas and futzing more than a download click is what I would call not ready for public consumption.
- JavaScript – Often VERY VERY FAST but then some sites will choke. Large ajaxy sites either LOVE (gmail.com) or hate(myyearbook.com) chrome. Maybe it’s Chrome maybe its the site developers but it’s enough to use another browser for those sites.
- Add-Ons - I miss my Adblock but in Chrome’s defense a LOT of revenue that allowed them to build chrome came from ads so allowing all kinds of Add-ons to chrome would probably not be the best idea. Privoxy seems to do pretty well with helping out.
The GOOD, ok there are some bright spots here.
- Faster and Cleaner seems like driving a hybrid vehical after the old diesel truck and large gas guzzler. It gets the job done but is missing some of the power and heft of the other browsers.
- Application links – Great all my webmail are links on my desktop and just sit there. EASY as pie I forget I’m using a web browser. http://Pandora.com is a GREAT thing to create a link.
- Crash resistant – I’ve had it crash less than I have fingers since I started using it. IE and FF a bit more unstable
Well there you go a few months with Chrome and it’s a full fixture on my computer. Maybe not for the heavy JavaScript sites. But the sites it works on it is a POWERHOUSE. On an ending note, for those who are looking for the not so good it’s not here. I deal in absolutes no grey areas….
