Chrome Day Day Two - The cracks revealed

September 4th, 2008 · No Comments

Ok so day 2 using chrome.  Loving the speed and now for the big BUT…

Read More Below...

It does work… and work rather well… for many sites.  But there are some most notebly Facebook and users are noticing.  Not that it’s really that terrible there’s still Firefox, IE and Safari that work with the site.  So you’re not left in the cold.  But with all those nighmarish Javascript cludged apps the power of V8 (chrome’s JavaScript engine) would be nice.

It’s easy to complain to Google about this but is a BETA and also a VERSION 1 (anyone remember version one of any browser working great) in addition I’ve seen no problems on other Javascript heavy sites.  Which leads me to point to a shared responsibility.  First with Google as it’s only a beta they get a try harder next time and then with Facebook and the app developers.  When writing something write clean.  And if the Facebook framework is such that there is a less than clean way of implimenting features (which I do suspect) then that needs to be looked at.

In the grand scheme of things the number of facebook users and the number of Chrome users is so difference that I believe that the Chrome developers are faced with a choice.  Adapt or ignore Facebook.  I beleive that since this is an initial beta then they will choose to adapt.

I do know there are probably several other sites out there (hundreds if not thousands) with similar issues.  I’d recommend just clean up your code for one thing and if it’s clean file a bug report.  Chrome will adapt or die.
