Most of us when faced with a question about anything… movies, lyrics, formula just pretty much life the universe and everything…. we go to Google and google it…  we usually get back a few thousand if not millions of hits.  And it’s become a way of life for most of us.  But is there more from this search engine giant?

You bet!  Google alerts is a great way to have google send YOU results as it finds them.   You can go to  http://www.google.com/alerts/.   Type in your search terms, select the range of the search (news, blogs, comprehensive, video etc.), frequency (I prefer daily)  and confirm your email address and google will be your tattle tail on pretty much any subject it can find.  

The possibilities are endless.

• Search for your name (we ALL do it) and see what you or your family name is up to.  I have a somewhat famous musician, a pro golfer that I never knew and get to her news about them from time to time.
• Search your company.  Find out what what people are saying about your company.  If someone is posting some negative things or has a problem you can find out about it and address it directly.   See how fast changes to your website make it into the search engine
• Search your competition. Find out what they are doing,  what people are saying about them.  New products and services.  
• Search for potential clients, find them when they ask for the services and products you provide.  
• Search your interests, interested in a band or TV show?  Have the latest scope or fan site update delivered to your inbox. 

Google alerts take these searches and makes them updates to your email inbox. A GREAT way to keep on top of things without making the effort.  With a little planning and using filters you can have all your news delivered organized and filed for reading, bookmarking and responding.
