Gmail Experiment - Delta Stage

February 2nd, 2008 · No Comments

Ok still using the Gmail for everything.  Still having a few issues and a few new insights. Read More Below...

One of the biggest is  forgetting to change my from/reply to address.  This can be a little confusing to clients but I’m getting used to checking.  A few others

  • No ability to group contacts for filters.
  •  Can’t import contacts into groups.
  • Slow checking POP3 accounts.

Now all but the last one are still on my list of issues (which I can live with).  Since I can create forwards/aliases for my email addresses for each of the accounts that I check I did the following:

  1. Removed the account from Gmail,  keeping the Reply/From settings,
  2. added a forward on my domain for that email address(check with your email hosting provided on how to do this)

By doing this I’ve increased the speed of emails to my old accounts into Gmail 100 fold.  No more waiting for Gmail to check.  I get INSTANT (almost) satisfaction.  With the alias a nice side effect is that the emails are STILL delivered to my POP3 account so I can still check with Thunderbird or Outlook
