Tips for the gifting chaos

December 1st, 2007 · No Comments

Gifts - Las Vegas StyleWe’re coming up to a BIG time of year of gift giving.  Which is always fun for the giver and receiver.    If you’re ever in doubt take a look at the smile on the jolly guy that visits every year about this time. Well make this the BEST year ever with some tips.Read More Below...

For the upcoming season try these tips…

  • Check Recalls - Most stores are pretty good at pulling the product off the shelves but just keep in mind that they make mistakes.  You can check here, or at the CPSC website for recalled toys.  Some stores even post recalls usually by the service or layaway desk.
  • Make sure it’s Age appropriate - Yes your child may be a genius but seriously they put the ages on the box for  a few reasons appropriateness and safety.  A 1/16 scale model of the USS enterprise may be cool for Dad but not for a 3 year old.  My wife and I usually disagree on this one often.
  • Do your Research - Look into the toy and what it does and has and needs.  Does it fit what the receiver wants or has asked for?  It is worth the price?  Can you get it cheaper? Read the label.  Ask questions.   Check what the gift might need.
  • Get Batteries - GET A LOT.  Membership stores (Sam’s, Costco, BJ’s Wholesale) all have batteries in BULK.  I’ll have a post later on this as this subject is REALLY a big one.  Oh by the way get batteries.

On the big day

  • Have Trash bags - Have a couple and make sure you go through them once the tornado is over to catch any missed pieces or instructions.
  • Ziplock bags - For small parts or instructions Label them with a marker.
  • Extension cords - Yep have a cord or two accessible to plug in a toy or charger.   It’s much easier to do this ahead of time than to be trying to move Aunt Bertha off the couch to get to the outlet.   As always practice extension cord safety.
  • Camera - Film, SD car,  Batteries and chargers.  Also a tripod, external flash and any other equipment.   Get your camera kit together ahead of time.
  • Notepad - Who gave what to who?  Remember to write your thank you cards!

Finally remember that giving should be as much fun as receiving.  Have fun enjoy your family and friends and celebrate the season!
