Vector images from bitmaps

November 15th, 2007 · No Comments

Thumbnail by thumshots.orgI found a cool site from Stanford (yes that Stanford) which lets you take a bitmap image such as a JPEG, GIF and turn it into a vector image that you can download as a EPS or SVG.  Why would anybody want to do this?  Say you have a tiny logo you want to resize.  Most of the time when you resize it larger (and sometimes smaller) you get artifacts or distortion.  Not very pretty. Read More Below...

Simply goto the site and then upload the image in question.  It takes a few clicks and you can download a cleaned up version of the image perfect for resizing.  It will also clean up JPEG artifacts and even some dithering quite nicely. It does take a couple of minutes to process and it may NOT get everything right but for the price(free) and the results it’s well worth it.
