In the news recently there has been the tales of the SUPERBUG or Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) the staph infection that is impossible to treat and people everywhere are in a panic. Hide your windows and board up your children. Ok, now that I’ve gotten the fantastic panicky intro out of the way it’s time to talk about keeping yourself safe from not only this but most any other bug out there. Read More Below...
To protect yourself is EXTREMELY VERY VERY SIMPLE.
- First off WASH YOUR HANDS! Not the quick rinse 15 seconds of scrubbing then dry off with a DISPOSABLE towel, and use a towel to turn off the water.
- Use hand sanitizer when water and soap is NOT available.
- Don’t share personal things such as razors, clothing, towel and other items.
- Monitor and have doctor check draining or infected wounds. Avoid contact with others until you are healed. Keep the wound covered in a clean dressing.
- Finally the thought is that MRSA came about by using too many antibiotics. So follow your doctors prescription and only use antibiotics when it’s necessary.
Looking at the above list is common sense. So why the media blitz? Simple ratings. Scared people watch more news programs. But using common sense and a little soap and water can protect you and your kids. For more information look at the CDC
